Louisiana Opens Emergency Rental Assistance Program

The Louisiana Housing Corporation and State of Louisiana Office of Community Development just opened a new program to provide emergency rental assistance to households in Louisiana that are facing financial hardships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

You can APPLY NOW at https://www.lhc.la.gov/larenthelp or by calling 211.

The program is open to rent-burdened households anywhere in the state who have been financially impacted as a result of business closures, layoffs, reduced work hours, quarantines, or unpaid leave due to COVID-19 and those who are not current on their rent and/or are at imminent risk of eviction due to COVID-19. There are income limits to qualify. For more information about eligibility, visit https://www.lhc.la.gov/larenthelp.

Of course, this program is a good start, but it's nowhere near enough to prevent the “eviction avalanche,” “housing apocalypse,” and “full-blown homelessness crisis” facing our state. Many of our legislators continue to drag their feet on protecting renters and homeowners from a housing crisis. Unemployment benefits are expiring soon, and many of us are still out of work or underemployed. Please join us now in telling Senators to pass the HEROES Act - which calls for a universal moratorium on evictions and foreclosures, $100 billion in assistance for renters and landlords, and $75 billion for homeowner relief - so that we don’t have to risk our health to go back to work without knowing whether we will have a safe place to come home to.
