America Divided Screening and Discussion
January 13th, 2026 New Orleans, LAJoin us in celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026 from 6-8:00 pm as we host a film screening of America Divided at the John Thompson Legacy Center, 1212 Saint Bernard Ave, New Orleans, LA 70116. We will have light refreshments and a post-film discussion of the damage extreme inequality inflicts on all Americans, its systemic causes, and a celebration of real-world heroes fighting for solutions.
From the creator of “All in the Family,” “Good Times,” and “The Jeffersons,” Norman Lear speaks with tenants, realtors, unhoused people, housing activists, landlords and city officials — investigating how the Big Apple’s affordability crisis, hedge fund speculation on residential housing, and a legacy of racist discrimination mirrors the landscape of New Orleans housing and continues to persists today. America Divided presents an opportunity for us to begin real conversations on one of the most important issues of our time: inequality. More than just looking at the way this crisis affects us all, the film also looks at the solutions that can help end inequality and unite us all.

The Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center (LaFHAC) is a nonprofit civil rights organization established in 1995 to eradicate housing discrimination. LaFHAC’s work throughout Louisiana includes educational offerings, free legal services for victims of housing discrimination, policy advocacy, and foreclosure prevention counseling. LaFHAC is dedicated to fighting discrimination because it is an illegal and divisive force that perpetuates poverty and segregation, and limits access to opportunity.
